Apartment hunting is an intimidating task. Not only is moving a big decision on its own, but there is so much to consider between different apartment amenities and features.

In this blog, we’ve gathered our key amenities for apartment living to help you narrow your search, ask questions, and choose your next home.

What are apartment amenities?

Apartment amenities are any unique features of a building. These features are often considered beyond the necessary functions of the living space. However, depending on your lifestyle, you may find some amenities essential to your ideal apartment.

In-unit amenities are items within the walls of your apartment. These amenities include everything from air conditioning, windows, and a fireplace to appliances like a washer and dryer, a dishwasher, and more.

Community amenities, as the name suggests, are available to the whole apartment community. These amenities may include a communal fitness center, swimming pool, or on-site laundry.

Essential apartment amenities

1.    Air Conditioning

The last thing you want is to be uncomfortable in your home. Without air conditioning, your apartment will become a hot, stuffy environment that will make summers miserable. Not only do you want to ensure your apartment comes with AC, but make sure the unit is functional before moving in.

Nowadays, most apartments have AC, but some older apartments lack the amenity. The good news: all HILLS apartments for rent have air conditioning.

2.    Available Parking

Parking may vary depending on what city you live in, but you should always inquire about the parking situation of the apartment community. As you commute to work or run daily errands, you shouldn’t worry about losing your parking space. As you’re talking with your landlord or property manager, ask about parking availability.

3.    Pet-friendly Policies

Whether or not you currently own a pet, you’ll want to discuss the apartment’s pet policies. If you have a pet, you won’t want to find yourself making the difficult decision to rehome your pet or break your lease[JH1] . All of our properties are pet friendly.

4.    On-site or in-unit laundry

Laundry is a key part of your daily life, especially if your job or hobby involves any messes. Subsequently, we always recommend you consider apartment communities with on-site laundry capabilities, whether it’s a community laundry room or in-unit machines.

Additionally, if a community has communal washers and dryers, note how many machines are available as compared to the number of people living within the community.

5.    Dishwasher

Similarly to laundry, dirty dishes are simply a part of life. Make your life a little bit easier by looking for apartments with dishwashers, which will save you time and clean your dishes better.

If possible, ask to briefly run the dishwasher on your apartment tour so you observe the volume. Some older dishwashers are quite noisy, but you’d be surprised at how quiet newer ones can be.
